The Maker
Hi, I'm Claire.
I make every Skölland piece myself, by hand, in a studio in Door County, Wisconsin — no team, no machines stamping out copies, no overseas production floor. I came to jewelry the long way around: I spent years as a baker before I ever picked up a torch. Eight years on, I still approach a commission the way I once approached a custom cake — equal parts precision and art, built once for a single occasion, watched closely as it takes shape, and never made the exact same one twice.
The work tends to find people at the hinge points — a wedding, a loss, a celebration, a beginning they haven't quite found the words for yet. Whatever you bring me, it can be carved into wax, cast in silver or gold, and made into something you wear and carry forward.

How a Skölland Commission Works
From your story to your finger.
Commissioning something that doesn't exist yet should feel exciting, not uncertain. Here's how it goes, from start to finish.

The Conversation
You reach out and tell me what you're after ~ the story, the symbolism, the stone, a rough sense of budget, and timeline. We talk through whether it's something I'm the right maker for. This first conversation is free, with no obligation. I save the firm quote for step 2 ~ the design phase, where I can price your piece properly.

The Design
When you're ready to begin, a $500 consultation & design fee is what starts the work. Until that's in, I don't quote pieces or put pen to paper for design work — that early time is reserved for committed clients. Once the design fee is paid, it secures your place in my queue and covers the concept and detailed sketches we shape together, and it applies toward your finished piece. This is also where you get your firm quote: an itemized breakdown of metal, labor, stone, and design, so you know the real number before any metal is touched. I hand-draw your design and refine it until you're certain.

The Deposit
Once you love the design, payment is staged so nothing lands all at once — your stones are sourced first, then the work is split across milestones, with the final balance due only when the piece is finished. I'll walk you through the full breakdown. Shop Pay Installments and limited in house layaway are there if you'd rather spread out a payment.

The Making
I make your piece, set the stones, and finish it by hand. You'll get progress photos along the way. Most commissions take eight to twelve weeks*, depending on the design and the time of year.

It Comes Home
The final payment is due before it ships or is picked up. Once your new piece is artfully package, I slip in a care guide written for your exact piece, so you know how to keep it for life.

*Orders placed between August and early October are delivered in early winter or spring of the following year.
What It Costs
Let's talk about money.
I'd rather be straight with you than make you guess. My custom work in silver starts at $1,500, and gold around $3,000 - the final number depends on the design, the metal, and the stones you choose. To begin, there's a $500 consultation & design fee that covers the designing phase and applies toward your finished piece, so you're never paying for it twice. If you'd like to spread the rest out, Shop Pay Installments and limited layaway are both available. No hidden fees, no pressure, no surprises at the end.
