Custom Commission Portfolio

Every commission starts with a conversation and ends with something that’s never existed before. Here are some
of the pieces I’ve built for clients - their stories, their ideas, and what came out of it in the end.

Custom Anniversary Band - Continuum Silver, 14K Rose Gold Inlay, Client-Supplied Diamond.

Ten Years, One Band

The brief: a 10-year anniversary gift for her husband. Something raw, something rooted in heritage. She wanted a band that reflected who he is - not what a jewelry store thinks an anniversary ring should look like. The most memorable request: she supplied a diamond from one of her earrings and asked me to break it. It shattered it into 3 main pieces and I set those pieces into the band to represent stars in the sky. I also inlaid 14K rose gold from one of his existing rings into the shape of a spruce tree - a nod to his family’s roots in northern Germany, where the spruce forests run deep. The result was a band that holds an intentionally broken stone, reclaimed gold, and a family story - none of which you’d typically find in a display case.

“Today I surprised Fry with a brand new hand-created one-of-a-kind wedding ring from the incredibly talented @skollandjewelry. WE had one heck of a day, so many memories made.”

The Kraken Ring

Custom Statement Ring- Argentium Silver, Client-Supplied Emerald.

Steve came to me with a concept and a stone - and then did something rare. He handed me the creative reins entirely. The brief was simple: build something that commands attention and fits a pirate’s persona for the Renaissance festival. The emerald was his. Everything else was mine to decide.

The emerald made me nervous, honestly. Emeralds are notoriously difficult to set because of their internal inclusions - one wrong move during setting and the stone can fracture along an existing inclusion. But the risk was part of what made the piece right. Octopus tentacles grip the stone. A thick hammered band grounds the piece and provides structure. The finished ring is loud, unapologetic, and exactly what a kraken ring should be.

“I am in love with my custom kraken ring and could not be more happy with the finished product, just a magnificent piece of art.” — Steve

Custom Ring -Argentium Silver, Elongated Grape Garnet Trillion.

The Re-imagined Band

Chandra found the Power of 3 band from the Androniuum collection and loved the presence of it - but wanted something with a more feminine silhouette without losing the edge. That’s a harder brief than it sounds.

The original band commands attention because of its width and weight on the finger. Reducing the scale for a feminine take risked making it feel like a different piece entirely. My first direction - an all-metal band - felt a bit flat. The proportions felt like they lost their impact. So I shifted the approach and contemplated the designs with the addition of a center stone. Chandra was drawn to a beautiful elongated grape trillion from Colombia Gem House, and once I designed a setting for it, the piece found its voice. The stone gave the narrower band the same commanding presence as the original, but through color and height instead of width alone.

“This ring is INCREDIBLE!! Thank you so much +”
— Chandra

A Tale Told in Scale & Stone-Wedding Set

Custom Wedding Bands —Continuum Silver, Kite-Shaped Garnet, Hand-Forged Metal"Gem"

Jessica found me at the Janesville
Renaissance Festival and came back a year later with sketches. She’s an artist, so the starting point was more developed than most briefs - both she and her partner wanted large-scale bands with texture and dragon-scale details. Jessica chose a kite-shaped garnet for her band. Her husband wanted something different: a metal “gem” instead of a stone. So I forged one and set it into the top of his band.

This project was a fusion of CAD and hand carving. CAD let me develop a consistent scale pattern across both bands so they’d read as a matched set. Hand carving came in for the settings and textured rails - the parts that needed to feel organic rather than engineered. The result was two statement wedding bands that merge fantasy, organic structure, and tradition into a set that’s unmistakably theirs.

“We both are absolutely stunned with our rings. They are beautiful and perfectly fit our style. I love how chunky they are. The scales are fun to trace absentmindedly. I’m so happy to have entrusted you with our rings. You created an amazing set of art for us to wear forever.” — Jessica
